Mountains, Monasteries, and Apricot Magic

Best Time to Travel:

May to October is your best bet — mild weather, clear skies, and fewer layers needed to explore the mountains. For winter lovers or ski adventurers, head to Tsaghkadzor between December and February.

Why Armenia Rocks:

Armenia is where ancient history meets mountain drama. It’s small but mighty — packed with cliff-hanging monasteries, volcanic peaks, and locals who treat you like long-lost family (with homemade mulberry vodka, naturally). It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself dancing at a roadside BBQ with strangers or standing alone in a silent 9th-century chapel wondering why no one told you this country was this cool.

Yerevan – The Pink City:

Yerevan, the capital, is older than Rome and proudly pink thanks to its rose-hued tuff stone. You’ll find buzzing cafes, Soviet-era charm, and Cascade — a giant limestone stairway with open-air art. The city is both laid-back and alive, and you’ll never go hungry (or thirsty — brandy tastings are a thing here).

Mount Ararat Views & Sacred Vibes:

Though technically across the border in Turkey, Mount Ararat looms large over Armenia — a snowcapped national symbol visible from Khor Virap monastery, where legend meets postcard perfection. Armenia is the first nation to adopt Christianity (301 AD!), and its churches are spiritual, rugged, and often found in the most breathtaking mountain spots.

Tavush & Dilijan – Nature’s Therapy:

Nicknamed “Armenian Switzerland,” Dilijan is a forested escape full of hiking trails, fresh air, and old-world charm. You’ll stumble on handmade craft shops, wooden balconies, and locals selling honey or wild herbs roadside.

Food & Drink:

This country takes comfort food seriously. Think khorovats (BBQ meats), dolma (stuffed vine leaves), and lavash baked in tonir ovens. Sweet-toothed travelers, get ready for gata — a buttery pastry often filled with sugary walnuts. Pair anything with homemade wine or a glass of oghi (fruit brandy) and toast to life with a hearty “kenats’t!”
